Historical Web Sites: The WayBack Machine provides the best archive of old Web sites. You can also try to bring up the site on Google and click on the “cache” or see the sources listed in Finding Old Web Pages from Search Engine Showdown. If you are looking for information from the U.S. government, the CyberCemetary posts the old Websites of defunct government agencies.

IP Addresses: Internet Protocol (“IP”) Addresses are the numerical “dot decimal” address that corresponds to each e-mail address (e.g, 206.138.200.84). They are assigned by five registrars worldwide. The registrar for North American is the American Registry for Internet Numbers, better known as ARIN.

Internet providers buy a whole bunch of IP addresses and then re-sell them to customers, attaching the customer’s chosen moniker to the provider’s domain name with an “@” symbol. You can look up IP addresses at www.arin.net/whois/index.htmland https://psacake.com/web/eg.asp. You can find out the IP address for a computer you are currently using at www.palserv.com/ipdisp.html, or www.whatismyipaddress.com.

I have had good experiences with E-Commerce and Internet Law: Treatise with Forms – 2d edition by Ian C. Overview of Internet in relation to cyber crime: [1]A common misunderstanding about the Internet is that it is synonymous with the World Wide Web (www). The two are not the same, though they are closely linked. While the Internet, also known simply as the ”Net,” provides an electrical backbone consisting of wired and satellite telecommunications systems, the World Wide Web uses the Internet to send and retrieve data via aWeb browser software application such as Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer. Early use of the Internet utilized only about this topic-and-below-ground (i.e., buried) telephone lines for the transmission of data. When a telephone line was open, a computer could connect to the Internet via a modem and then begin sending and receiving data. Much of today’s Internet still uses telephone lines, but many portions of the Net utilize technologies such as fiber optic cable lines and cellular telephone satellite connections. The use of these technologies has greatly increased the speed and flexibility of sending and receiving via the Internet.

Internet Phenomenon, the Law and other Social Sciences

Internet phenomenon is a new field of research. An internet phenomenon is an occurrence on the internet about somebody, a website, or a picture that for some reason captures the attention of numerous internet users and develops a craze that fast-spreads through the internet. The most common internet phenomenon is an internet meme, but also internet celebrities, political campaigns, or simply something out of the ordinary. Internet phenomenona have often been compared to folklore and urban legends; however there is one significant difference in that folklore was passed on in an oral culture of illiterates. Internet on the other hand sharing are mostly done among 21st Century literates and often stored on servers for other people to see. In this sense sharing internet phenomenona are closer to chain letters except the internet technology makes the process a lot easier and faster and may spread globally within minutes.[1]
