Transparency and the GATT Policy Negotiations

In relation to the GATT Policy Negotiations, Christopher Mark (1993) provided the following explanation and/or definition of Transparency: Openness, clarity, and predictability of a country’s trade laws and regulations. Transparency –especially as it connotes freedom from capricious bureaucratic action or manipulation of rules for protectionist purposes –is one of the fundamental tenets of the GATT. Tariffication is regarded by many GATT members as a key to promoting transparency.

Transparency of an Election in Election Law

A prerequisite of a democratic and fair election, involving, on the one hand, the right and ability of all stakeholders (voters, candidates, political parties, media, observers, etc.) to access all the regulations governing the process and, on the other hand, their right to follow and observe every step of the process to ensure it is carried out properly.

Transparency in Community Policing

In this area, a meaning of Transparency is available: A quality of openness and communication under which police officers and the community openly share and clearly see concerns and intentions.
