International Development Association Outline
The IDA is one of the two affiliates of the World Bank. It came into existence in 1962 under the Articles of Agreement of the International Development Association of 1960. Its main function is to provide loans on more favourable and flexible terms than the IBRD to the less-developed countries for purposes consistent with the aims of the IBRD, so that the repayment of the loans by these countries does not have any negative effect to their balance of payments. The IDA consists of the IBRD members. Its headquarters are in Washington, DC.(1)
