Buffer Stock
Summary of Buffer Stock
A commodity stockpile controlled by one or more nations for the purpose of stabilizing world prices of that particular commodity. The commodity is released into the market as world prices increase and is purchased for the stockpile as prices decline. The establishment of such a stockpile is normally the product of an International Commodity Agreement (read this legal term for further details), with administration of the stockpile performed by a secretariat established for that purpose.
