Summary of Genuine Link
A provision arising from the 1958 Convention on the High Seas (450 United Nations Treaty Series 82, Article V), that “there must be a genuine link between the State [that registers the vessel] and the ship”; this “link”is not clearly defined and has not served as a serious impediment to registering under a FLAG OF CONVENIENCE (read this legal term for further details).
