Summary of Central Rate

Each currency affiliated with the EUROPEAN monetary system (read this and related legal terms for further details) is assigned a value in terms of the European currency unit (ECU). The central rate is the range within which any participating currency is permitted to deviate from its ECU value, after which member central banks are obliged to intervene to restore equilibrium.
