Constitutional Lawyer Description

What a Constitutional Lawyer Do?

Law Clerks

In the United States, each member of the U.S. Supreme Court is allowed four law clerks (or clerks). The law clerks are hired directly (and with total discretion) by the individual judges, usually for one year, but sometimes a law clerk stays longer. What a law clerk do?. They read, analyze and, in many cases, prepare memoranda for the members of the Supreme Court. They also help a judge to prepare his or her opinion.

In relation to the potential influence on the judge’s votes, Justice Byron R. White, who clerked for Chief Justice Fred M. Vinson during the 1946—1947 term, said that “we (the justices of the Supreme Court) couldn’t get our work done without the clerks, … but I don’t think they (the law clerks) influence the results here all that much.”
