Single Non-transferable Vote (sntv) in Election Law

Electoral system in which the voter is asked to vote for a single candidate in a multi-member district represented by several seats. The candidates who receive the most votes are declared winners. In this type of system, electors vote for individuals rather than parties.

Swing Vote in Election Law

Vote of an undecided elector that is seen as potentially going to any of a number of candidates in an election, or, in a two-party system, may go to either of the two dominant political parties. Such votes are usually sought after in elections, since they can play a major role in determining the outcome.

Votes Cast in Election Law

Number of votes contained in the ballot boxes and/or sent by mail or electronically, which indicate the voter's choice and which comply with the system determined by the electoral law. The official number of votes cast is determined by processing the ballots and counting the votes. Usually blank ballots are not counted as part of the votes cast unless specifically stipulated by the electoral law.
