Trade Impacted Area

Summary of Trade Impacted Area

As provided in the Trade Act of 1974, a geographic area defined by the secretary of commerce in which significant numbers of workers have been laid off or in which the sales and/or production of firms has fallen, and where these conditions are directly attributable to increased imports of products similar to or competitive with those of the affected area. Such a finding by the secretary will make the designated area eligible for economic redevelopment under Section 401 of the Public Works and Economic Development Act of 1965, plus certain loan guarantees authorized by the Trade Act.
