Technology Driver and International Trade Economy

In relation to international trade economy, Christopher Mark (1993) provided the following definition of Technology Driver: A product with a relatively simple design which a manufacturer may produce in high volume in order to hone its skills and then transfer this experience to more complicated but higher-value-added devices. Arguments for import protection or export promotion sometimes are based on assertions that the product in question is (or may become) a technology driver, and so warrants special treatment as part of national technology policy .
