Relational Database in Legal Information Retrieval

The following is a basic concept of Relational Database in relation to information retrieval. In addition to this, Relational Database may be applied to legal texts, including case law, legislation and scholarly works. One of the most common database models is called relational, resulting in relational databases. According to FOLDOC: The Free On-line Dictionary of Computing (2002), a relational database is one in which the data and relations between them are organized in tables. The name reflects a special way for organizing data and for indicating relations among data or categories of data. The name can be misleading, however, because all databases, regardless of data model, describe and display relationships to some degree, in one way or another.
