Literature Review on (Personnel Management) Turnover

In the Encyclopedia of Public Administration and Public Policy, [1] Christopher Stream and Robert J. Tekniepe provide the following summary about the topic of (Personnel Management) Turnover: Public service administrators have come to play increasingly important roles, and their turnover can negatively affect an organization. Consequently, understanding the concept of turnover is important for public sector organizations. This entry examines the evolving purpose of public administrators; the political, personal, generational, and organizational factors influencing public executive turnover; and the consequences of turnover. The turnover literature in the domain of public administration has not sufficiently addressed strategies to decrease turnover and increase recruitment of executives. Future research should also address the millennial generation's disinterest in long-term career choices, such as public administration.
