Summary of On Deck Cargo
Cargo, normally of a hazardous nature, that is stowed on the deck of the vessel for easy discharge overboard in the event of fire or other danger. The bill of lading for cargo stowed on deck for reasons of safety will bear a special “on deck”notation which conveys that the goods are carried at the shipper's risk, thereby imposing a reduced liability upon the carrier.
