Resolution on Strengthening the Inter-american Human Rights System in 2013

United States views on international law [1] in relation to Resolution on Strengthening the Inter-american Human Rights System: At its 44th special session in March 2013, the OAS General Assembly adopted a resolution on strengthening the Inter-American Human Rights System. OEA/Ser.P AG/RES.1 (XLIV-E/13) (Mar.22, 2013). The United States welcomed the resolution in a March 23, 2013 press statement, available at (Secretary of State website) state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2013/03/206581.htm. The press statement explains:

The independent and respected Inter-American Commission on Human Rights— a founding pillar of the Western Hemisphere's human rights architecture—is stronger and more capable as a result of the decision of all OAS member states to seek full financing for its operations and to strengthen its rapporteurships. As a reflection of our strong support for the Commission's efforts, the United States also announced yesterday a $1 million contribution to support its operational costs, and we encourage other member states to do the same.
