Dock Receipt

Dock Receipt

Summary of Dock Receipt

A document used at some ports to acknowledge delivery of cargo to a pier for shipment aboard a given vessel. The format of a dock receipt often resembles that of a bill of lading and contains substantially the same information concerning the cargo; it is signed and/or stamped by the stevedore when the goods are off-loaded from the truck or other delivering conveyance. At this time, any error in count or product damage will be noted on the dock receipt. Normally the exporter or his agent will be obliged to surrender the dock receipt to the carrier at the time he submits the ocean bill of lading for validation.
