Crown Court
Introduction to Crown Court
Crown Court, main criminal court in England and Wales. All offenses not tried by magistrates go to the crown court where they are tried before a jury, with the exception of a guilty plea. The defendant is committed to the crown court by a magistrate’s court, and has the right of appeal to the Court of Appeal. Crown courts have circuit judges presiding for most cases and high court judges for the most serious cases.” (1)
