Container Freight Station

Container Freight Station

Summary of Container Freight Station

A warehouse or terminal licensed by U.S. Customs to receive in-bond consolidations of containerized cargo. The containers delivered to this station carry imported merchandise in small lots destined to many consignees; the goods will be removed from the containers under customs supervision and shipped onward in less than container lots. Customs clearance may be effected at the terminal, or the goods may be shipped in bond to another point for clearance. In addition, exporters of small shipments may send their merchandise to the container freight station, where several small lots will be combined in a single container for shipment aboard the vessel.
