Breach of Peace
Breach of Peace
Breach of Peace, in law, any act construed as a disruption of social order or a threat to the public sense of personal safety, whether violent in actuality or tending to incite resentment or fighting. Under the common law of England, any act constituting a breach of the peace was a misdemeanor. In the United States today, such disruptive behavior is still regarded as a separate or distinct offense, but it is also held to be implicit in the commission of all crime. (1)
