Assembly Service
Summary of Assembly Service
A service provided by some common carriers whereby small lots of cargo bound for a single consignee are shipped to the carrier's terminal to be aggregated into a single shipment. When a predetermined volume of cargo has been amassed, it is shipped as a unit to the consignee. This type of service frees the consignee from the inconvenience of multiple, small deliveries and affords a lower per unit cost of transportation due to economies of scale.
