Definition of Advising Bank in International Trade

The following is a concept of Advising Bank in the context of international trade law, from the Dictionary of International Trade (Global Negotiator): The bank that notifies the exporter of the opening of a letter of credit in his or her favour. The advising bank, usually located in the exporter's country, fully informs the exporter of the conditions of the letter of credit without itself making a payment commitment. See letter of credit.
