Summary of Adverse Selection

The practice of applying insurance cover only in those cases where a higher than normal degree of loss is contemplated. Inas-much as adverse selection defeats the object of insurance, which is to spread risk, the practice is discouraged or contractually prohibited in contracts of insurance.
