Codification or unification of international commercial law serves three purposes:unification of substantive law in international trade, for example, the Vienna Sales Convention; unification of procedural law governing international trade and commerce, for example, the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards; andcodification of the rules of conflict of laws, for example, the Hague Conferences on private international law Fo(r discussion, see Pfund, ‘Overview of the Codification Process’ (1989) 15 Brooklyn J Int’l L 7 at 12-13.), which recommended or renegotiated, for example, the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legislation for Foreign Public Documents, the Hague Convention on Law Applicable to the Protection of Minors and the Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Cooperation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption.(1)
