Zone Restricted Status

Zone Restricted Status

Summary of Zone Restricted Status

A condition accorded to goods entered into a Foreign Trade Zone (read this and related legal terms for further details) solely for destruction or exportation to another country. These goods may not be manipulated or processed in any way; re-entry into the customs territory of the United States for consumption is prohibited except upon a finding by the Foreign Trade Zones Board that such a re-entry is in the public interest.

Entry of merchandise into a foreign trade zone as zone-restricted merchandise is the full legal equivalent of exportation, and the goods may remain in the zone pending actual disposal. The status may be conveyed upon application to the district director of customs.
