Wharfinger in International Trade

Meaning of Wharfinger, according to the Dictionary of International Trade (Global Negotiator): Personnel in charge of receiving and registering goods in a port on behalf of the carrier. The wharfinger's signature of the shipping note assures the shipper that it can proceed to draw up bills of lading pursuant to the terms of the note. Also called checker.
