Wardriving and Wardialing

Overview of Wardriving and Wardialing in relation to cyber crime: [1]There are two types of wardriving, active and passive. Active wardriving occurs when a wireless device is used to contact the wireless access point that it is searching for. Once contact is made, the device then becomes associated with and recognized by the wireless network. Passive wardriving occurs when a device only attempts to detect (listens for) a wireless access point without actually joining or communicating with the network system device transmitting a signal. Often, directional antennas can be used to detect wider signal ranges and thereby locate a greater number of available access points within a geographic area.
