Voter Information
Voter Information in Election Law
A process of giving relevant factual information about an election process on a timely basis. This includes when, where and how voters will vote. When this is done during the preparatory stages of an election, particularly a general election, it aids transparency and generates confidence in the electoral process.
Voter List in Election Law
Official document detailing the names of voters who must vote at a specific polling area (polling station, polling centre or constituency). The voter list is extracted and compiled from a voter registry established during voter registration. In many countries, when people vote, they must sign the list next to their name after showing an identity document and/or their voter card to the officer in charge of identity checks.
Voter Turnout in Election Law
Percentage of eligible voters in a population who actually vote on election day. This is a significant indicator of the level of interest among citizens for public affairs, as well as the credibility of the election process.
Voter-verified Paper Audit Trail (vvpat) in Election Law
Kind of receipt printed by an electronic voting machine indicating that an elector's vote has been recorded by the system. The VVPAT is retained by election officials as the record of votes cast for the purposes of an audit or in cases of recount.
