Under Deck Bill Of Lading
Summary of Under Deck Bill Of Lading
An ocean bill of Lading (read this and related legal terms for further details) bearing the specific notation that the goods have been stowed below deck. Under deck stowage has been traditionally regarded as safer than stowage on deck. Under deck bills are no longer commonly issued by carriers, particularly in the case of container ship operators; so-called optional bills are issued instead, giving the carrier the option of stowing the goods at his convenience. Such bills of lading are generally accorded the status of under deck bills except where specifically endorsed “on deck.”
