The United Nations Development Programme (Undp) in 2016
The UNDP engages countries to mitigate and prevent conflicts, including in East Africa, by developing national and regional strategies to counter and prevent violent extremism (PVE) and deepening research on PVE through its center in Oslo, Norway. In 2016, the United States provided assistance funding to UNDP to help strengthen community-police partnerships in high-risk communities. The UNDP sponsored a global conference in Oslo in March, which brought together non-governmental organizations and all of their regional and country directors to discuss approaches to PVE and later appointed a new global director for PVE.
