Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education, decision by the Supreme Court of the United States, handed down in 1971, that dealt with methods of court-ordered desegregation in public schools. The Supreme Court unanimously upheld a district court order implementing its own desegregation plan after the school board’s plan proved unsatisfactory. Among the methods judged legitimate in the forced desegregation of delinquent school systems were busing, racial quotas, and the rearrangement of school districts.” (1)
