Text Encoding Schema in Legal Information Retrieval

The following is a basic concept of Text Encoding Schema in relation to information retrieval. In addition to this, Text Encoding Schema may be applied to legal texts, including case law, legislation and scholarly works. Many schemas have been developed for encoding texts of various formats for electronic digital presentation, analysis and retrieval. These include SGML (Standard General Markup Language), HTML (HyperText Markup Language), XML (eXtensible Markup Language), and TEI (Text Encoding Initiative).
