Roll-On/roll-Off

Roll-On/roll-Off

Summary of Roll-On/roll-Off

A method of ocean cargo service employing a vessel with ramps astern or amidships to permit wheeled vehicles to be loaded aboard. The opportunity to run cargo on and off by ramps, without the necessity of cranes or similar equipment, permits accelerated loading and unloading of the vessel, particularly in ports where congested or substandard conditions would otherwise impede cargo movement.
