Public and Political Life in the CEDAW

Article 7: of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) stipulates, in relation to Public and Political Life, that all countries are required to eliminate discrimination in public and political life, and especially ensure the right to:

• vote and be eligible for election

• participate in the formulation and implementation of government policy

• hold public office and perform public functions at all levels

• participate in non-governmental and civil society organizations
