Literature Review on (Management) Productivity and Budgeting
In the Encyclopedia of Public Administration and Public Policy, [1] Gerald J. Miller and Donijo Robbins provide the following summary about the topic of (Management) Productivity and Budgeting: When setting goals, decision makers rely on budgets to link productivity to dollars. Many reform efforts have tried to improve this link and increase innovation and performance. They have succeeded through strong leadership and widespread buy-in. Reform efforts that failed to take account of politics, however, over-promised and under-delivered. Managers get higher performing programs when politics is manageable and budgeting is more technicalfocusing on measurement and incentives.
Literature Review on Training for Productivity
In the Encyclopedia of Public Administration and Public Policy, [1] Montgomery Van Wart offers the following summary about the topic of Training for Productivity: To produce greater productivity in organizations, training is inevitably a part of the solution, although it is rarely the whole solution. Today’s organizations need to respond to the competing demands for using training resources as scarce commodities, providing more broadly trained individuals, maintaining high-quality “basics” training, and new emphases in training such as self-training and greater reliance on certifications. A productivity approach to training asks tough questions about training quality, gaps, resources, and balance of basic and advanced learning emphases in constrained environments. Brief reviews of competency clusters, learning principles, and different types of training methods are discussed in this entry.
