Petitions

Paid Dockets in the U.S.

The U. S. Supreme Court receives more than 400.000 petitions every year from potential litigants who desire having their cases reviewed by the U.S. Supreme Court. The petitions for review come from people who are unable to afford the court costs as well as from those who are able of paying the filing fee and printing costs. The Court, therefore, made a classification between petitions filed as “in forma pauperis” and “paid cases.” Unpaid petitions are generally of less quality than are paid petitions because most indigent defendants draft their own petitions.
