Summary of Marine Extension Clause

A provision in an ocean marine cargo policy for coverage of the merchandise in cases where: (1) there is a deviation by the vessel, transshipment, forced discharge, or the exercise of any liberty granted to the vessel operator under the contract of affreightment; or (2) the goods are landed at a port for sale and remain at the port, up to fifteen days from time of discharge, pending sale and/or commencement of transit to a point other than that covered by the policy. Marine extension clauses are customary in virtually all ocean marine cargo policies.
