The Office of Investment Affairs works to expand the network of high-quality investment agreements.
The Office of Investment Affairs co-leads the negotiation of bilateral investment treaties (BITs) along with the U.S. Trade Representative to facilitate better investment opportunities worldwide. Additionally, we are responsible for overseeing assistance with investment disputes around the world.
Negotiating Bilateral Investment Treaties
The Office of Investment Affairs co-leads the negotiation of Bilateral Investment Treaties and investment chapters of free trade agreements with the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. Strong investment agreements facilitate international investment by encouraging nondiscriminatory, open, market-oriented investment policies, thereby creating an environment more conducive to greater economic opportunity.
