International Telecommunications Satellite Organization Outline

INTELSAT was established pursuant to the Agreement Relating to the International Telecommunication Satellite Organization of 1971, which entered into force in 1973. A country should become a member of the ITU before becoming a member of INTELSAT. INTELSAT is an international body coordinating the use of satellites or telecommunications facilities for mutual benefits of countries in the airspace which is not owned by any country. It has the power to allocate and provide space segments (consisting of satellites and associated facilities) owned by it on a commercial basis and can regulate the ground segments situated within the jurisdiction of the member countries.(1)
