Introduction to Identification

Identification, proof of identity: something, especially a card or document, to prove that somebody is who he or she claims to be. In law, proof that a person or item before the court is the same as alleged. Witness recognition of a defendant is an example of identification, as is testimony substantiating that certain items were observed by a witness at a prior time. Connection of identity: recognizing and naming somebody or something.” (1)

Voter Identification in Election Law

Requirement whereby every voter who enters the polling station must identify him or herself, normally by presenting an identification document to a polling official.
