Human Development
Human Development in United Nations Activities
In this context, Human Development means:
is the expansion of people’s freedoms to live long, healthy and creative lives; to advanceother goals they have reason to value;and to engage actively in shaping development equitably and sustainably on ashared planet. People are both the beneficiaries and drivers of human development, as individuals and in groups.(Definition of Human development of the 2010 HDR)
Human Development Index (hdi) in United Nations Activities
In this context, Human Development Index (hdi) means:
a composite index measuring average achievement in a country in three basic dimensions of human development:A long and healthy life, measured by life expectancy at birth. Knowledge, measured by Mean of years of schooling and Expected years of schooling•. A decent standard of living measured by GDP per capita in purchasing power parity (PPP) in terms of US dollars.
Very High, High, Medium, Low Human Development Groups (in the Human Development Area)
In this context, Very High, High, Medium, Low Human Development Groups means:
_ountry classifications based on Human Development Index (HDI) quartiles. A country is in the very high group if its HDI is in the top quartile, in the high group if its HDI is in percentiles 51-75, in the medium group if its HDI is in percentiles 26-50 and in the low group is in the bottom quartile. Earlier Human Development reports used absolute rather than relative thresholds.
