Geopolitics

Introduction to Geopolitics

Geopolitics, study of the impact of geography on relations between nations. Swedish political scientist Rudolf Kjellén first used the term geopolitics in 1899. Kjellén believed that the economic, political, and military characteristics of nations derived from their physical features and environmental influences. In particular, Kjellén focused on the political significance of such geographic features as mountains and oceans. He also examined the political influence of natural resources, such as oil, and human resources, such as population.” (1)
