Reviews of Fto Designations in 2011

United States views on international law (based on the document “Digest of U.S. Practice in International Law”): During 2011 the Secretary of State continued to review designations of entities as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (“FTOs”), and the Department of State announced the Deputy Secretary's determination that the designation of the following organization as an FTO “shall remain in place:” al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade, also known as al-Aqsa Martyrs' Battalion. 76 Fed. Reg. 17,979 (March 31, 2011).

Developments

The review was conducted consistent with the procedures for reviewing and revoking FTO designations in § 219(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended by the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (“IRTPA”), Pub. L.
