Foreign Traders Index

Summary of Foreign Traders Index

A database of foreign importers or potential importers of American products maintained by the International Trade Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce as a source of business data for U.S. exporters. The file contains information on more than 140,000 potential purchasers in 143 countries. The database is updated and new firms are added continuously. Information may be retrieved in several forms: 1. Export Mailing List Service. Lists are prepared for selected countries by commodity classification, detailing name and address of the firm, telephone, telex, cable address, name of chief executive, relative size, year established, number of employees, and product or service cited by Standard Industrial Classification number. Information is collected by agents of the Foreign Commercial Service stationed abroad and may be obtained by American users in the form of a computer printout or on gummed labels.

2. Data Tape Service. Information on all firms in any or all countries in the Foreign Traders Index is available on magnetic tape at a cost, in 1984, of $ 177.50 per country, or $2,500 for the entire file.

3. Trade Lists. A printed summary of all data in the Foreign Traders Index for selected developing countries is priced at three to five dollars per list.

Access to the data contained in the Foreign Traders Index can be obtained by contacting any district office of the U.S Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration.
