Five-Year Plan
Introduction to Five-Year Plan
Five-Year Plan, name of each of the series of programs first implemented by the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) for the development of the national economy. As the name suggests, each plan encompassed a five-year period of concentrated development efforts. The USSR inaugurated its first five-year plan in 1928, under Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Other nations, including India and China, subsequently implemented five-year plans, and the term generally became identified with the economic policies of socialist or communist governments. ” (1)
