Fire Statute

Fire Statute

Summary of Fire Statute

An act of Congress (46 USCA Sec. 182) passed in 1851 to relieve carriers of obligations to shippers for fire losses aboard ship, “unless such fire is caused by the design or neglect of the owner”; this provision has been effectively supplanted by Section 4(2)(b) of the carriage of GOODS BY SEA ACT (read this and related legal terms for further details).
