Environment Program
Unep (in the Human Development Area)
In this context, Unep means:
Intergovernmental Environment Programme, initiated by theUnited Nations Stockholm Conference (1972) and theUnited Nations General Assembly (1973), devoted to the ecological crisis (desertification of the planet, the loss of topsoil, deforestation of the Earth, a sharp deterioration in the quality and reduce the amount of fresh water, pollution of the oceans, etc.). UNEP reports annually on its activities to theUnited Nations General Assembly through the Economic and Social Council of UNEP. Headquarters is in Nairobi (Kenya).
