Economic Community of West Africa and the Peaceful Settlement of Disputes
As to disputes arising between members of the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS), regarding the interpretation or application of the Treaty under which it was created, the latter provides that such disputes shall be amicably settled by direct agreement. Whenever such an
amicable settlement is not possible, any party to the dispute may refer the matter to a Tribunal of the Community whose function will be to settle the dispute, through final decisions, ensuring the observance of law and justice in the interpretation of the provisions of the treaty.
