Duty Remission
Duty Remission and the GATT Policy Negotiations
In relation to the GATT Policy Negotiations, Christopher Mark (1993) provided the following explanation and/or definition of Duty Remission: A system allowing a firm to import goods into a country for processing and, when exported to a third country, to receive a repayment of duties paid at the time of the original importation. Unlike drawbacks , duty remissions do not require that the exported products contain elements of the imported product. Duty remissions may be considered export subsidies.
