Down By The Stern

Summary of Down By The Stern

The condition of a vessel where draft at the stern is greater than draft at the bow. It is common to find a ship operated slightly down by the stem for greater ease of handling than would be the case if the vessel were in trim, i.e., where bow and stern drafts are exactly the same.
