Doubles
Summary of Doubles
Two trailers, each usually twenty-eight feet in length, hauled behind a single tractor. Despite recent Federal legislation permitting the use of such equipment nationwide, many states and localities have objected to their use, resulting in conflict between the Federal and local governments. In 1984, in a case involving restrictions imposed on the operation of doubles by Connecticut, the U.S. Supreme Court effectively struck down local restrictions on the movement of such equipment in interstate commerce.
