Distance Freight
Summary of Distance Freight
Additional freight monies due to a vessel owner by the charterer when, in the opinion of the ship's captain, ice conditions preclude discharge at the intended port and the vessel must divert to an alternative, more distant port. As a practical matter, such additional freight is not charged unless the diversion adds at least one hundred miles to the voyage, in which case the additional freight shall be proportional to the freight payable from port of origin to the port originally intended.
